Bank Notes and their FacesThe one, whose face is printed on a bank note, has probably earned a substantial honor in social, cultural or scientifically relation for his country. It is worth to look twice who is actually honored there. One of the most seen faces (at least during the German mark era) is the face of Bettina von Arnim. The authoress is considered as an advocate for woman´s emancipation. Her most well known book is "Bettinas Armenbuch". Her face is on the today much desired 5 mark bill. She is not smiling on it, but this would not be the right issue for Germany´s number one social fighter. Even if she only has made it to appear on the 5 mark bill - according to her name today also nursing homes and schools are designated. With us we also always carried Johann Carl Friedrich Gauss on the 10 mark bill. Gauß had a lot of interests: He was mathematician, astronomer, geo meter and physicist. His knowledge and competence is confirmed in the fact, that the king of Hannover once asked Gauß to measure his kingdom. He had a lot of lasting influence on the today's arrangement of mathematics sciences. On the face of the former biggest bank note of Germany are the brothers Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm. The authors of the world´s well known Grimm’s Fairytales have earned this honor also, because they have reached a large achievement with the collection of German speaking and cultural property. Also other countries are honoring their national heroes in that way. The face of Galilei was on the 2000 Lira bill, Albert Einstein (without visible tongue) was on the 5 Schekel bill, the 50 Piastres bill of Egypt bears the picture of Tut-Anch-Amun. On almost every bank note in England a portrait of the Queen can be found. In the European financial union today unfortunately no more faces are on the bank notes. The notes are showing exclusively windows, gates and bridges which have been designed by the Austrian artist Robert Kalina. These objects illustrate the architectural styles from seven epochs of European cultural history. |
