Kilts - Skirts for Men

Believe it or not: most women declare the kilt as being one of the most masculine pieces of clothing in the world. Why's that? From ancient times on, men from all countries have been wearing skirt-like garments, not only the Scots. The Germanics, the Celts and Romans alike used to wear skirts, as depicted in many films and museums. Thanks to the generous legroom provided, the kilt was a popular habiliment for men who labored all day. Naturally, this exercice produced large muscles which were perfectly visible on any skirtwearer - a pleasing sight for the ladies. The wild men's legs were packed with tough muscles.

During the Middle Ages, trousers became popluar. Only the Scots and Irishmen continued wearing kilts.

The heard-wearing cloth was covered with traditional plaid patterns, called Tartans. The makers used the local herbs and weeds in order to dye the wool according to fashion trends. This is the reason why certain combinations of colors are still connected with certain areas. In the course of time, the Scots defined particular colors for certain regions and tribes, the so-called Clans. Originally, the kilt was nothing more than a large piece of cloth, the "belted plaid". It was being spread out on the floor and partly creased. The wearer then lay down on the cloth and fastened it around his hip with a belt. The remaining cloth was being laid over the shoulder, in order to keep the wearer warm and safe from rain. An English manufacturer from the 19th century once noticed that his worker's freedom of movement was restricted by these large pieces of cloth. He had the belted plaid been cut into two pieces. That's where today's shorter kilts originate from. More and more fans enjoy wearing the convenient garment. Not only Scots feel comfortable in a kilt. Many tourists and admirers of Scotland wear kilts on ceremonial occasions as well as on hiking tours. Even nowadays, the convenience and legromm are essential advantages of this piece of clothing. And what's more - the ladies like it!
